I've known since high school that marketing and advertising were what I wanted to do. It all started with the high school English class assignment to create a series of ads with different types of appeals. I've been hooked since then.
After getting my B.S. in Marketing and minor in Telecom and Film from San Diego State in 1989, I went right to work heading up marketing communications for a local high-tech firm. Five years and several successful marketing campaigns later, I joined with a friend to form a creative boutique in San Diego. We ran that business for four years, serving a variety of high-tech, retail and non-profit accounts, after which we both decided to pursue other career avenues.
I went back to school to get my MBA (University of Redlands, "Och Tomale!"), and back to corporate life, once again running the marketing department of a local high-tech firm. These two things kept me busy for the next three years. I then headed up marketing communications for two different start-ups before deciding to strike out on my own once again in 2002. It was in the Fall of 2002 that Epiphany Marketing was conceived, with the official birth on January 1, 2003.
Naming the company "Epiphany" just seemed natural to me. Because, while epiphanies may seem to come out of the blue, they're really the summation of experience, brought to light in a glorious burst of thought concentrated on solving a specific problem.
The tag line, "Build a personal connection" represents what we do on several levels. We help customers form personal connections with companies that provide them with products, services or causes to support. And we build personal connections with our clients, working closely with them in a team collaboration and working our hardest to meet their needs. I've learned that when a personal connection is forged, anything is possible. That's why, at the end of the day, Epiphany Marketing is in the people business, not simply the marketing business. Connecting people is what we're all about.
During the span of my career, I've gained extensive experience conceiving brands, creating marketing campaigns, and implementing communications across all kinds of media, from print advertising to the Web, from trade shows to public relations. I've done it all, from copy writing to design and production, from setting up trade show booths and greeting customers, to managing marketing communications teams. I've worked for a wide variety of client in diverse industries, both for-profit and non-profit. And I've sat on both sides of the desk - the client side and the agency side.
I loved every minute of it. The opportunities to shape brands, build personal connections and serve people just thrills me every day. My clients are my reason for coming into work every day -if you can call it work! I call it pure enjoyment.
